A Welcome Statement from the
Dean of University Libraries, Michael A. Crumpton
أهلا ~ 欢迎 ~ 歡迎 ~ Bienvenue ~ Willkommen ~ ようこそ
환영합니다 ~ Добро пожаловать ~ Bienvenidos ~ Chào mừng
We are proud to support students, faculty, staff, and community members while contributing to UNC Greensboro’s mission to redefine the public research university for the 21st century as one that provides opportunity for all, focuses on student success, and creates remarkable real-world impact, every day.
At the University Libraries, you will find programs to inspire and support you, experts to respond to your academic and scholarly needs, and service-focused, technology-rich environments in which you can study and collaborate.
Our spaces encourage exploration with advanced hardware and software, 3D printing, virtual reality, data visualization, and more while fostering an atmosphere of open experimentation and discovery.
Our growing open data and research repositories facilitate exchanging information and knowledge regardless of geographic, institutional, or financial barriers. And our work supporting open access publishing and open educational resources supports the growing need for openly available research and learning materials.
Representing the unique signature of the university with rare and special collections, we provide rich primary source materials for scholars to evaluate and use in new and different ways. Our digitization efforts aim to expand access to these distinctive collections, as well as those from the community.
Our communities and their needs constantly change and evolve. Acquiring and managing library materials, teaching our students, keeping technology and equipment up to date, and serving our faculty and researchers remain core to our work, but important new priorities command our attention.
Among those priorities are leading the university in creating and providing affordable course content for students, making free and low-cost textbooks available to students to help reduce expenses, and offering faculty incentives for encouraging lower cost classroom resources. The University Libraries is also focusing significant effort on improving library spaces so heavily used by students.
Whether you visit us online or in person, we hope you find your time with us productive and useful. You can contact me directly at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Michael Crumpton, MLS, SHRM-SCP
